Getting Things Started

Welcome to a simple blog about my development through Re:DF. Re:DF is a fan recreation of the cult classic video game series Earth Defense Force. The goal is to create the project that captures the feel of the games, while expressing creative redesigns of the series. For example, Re:DF will be a first person action game, instead of its third person perspective counterpart. The game will focus on a much more down to earth perspective, with heavier combat, deeper weapon progression, and strong increased enemy difficulty.

Day One (March 26th 2017):
Day one concluded with the first massive step towards any progress of the game. The object pool. Since there will be hundreds, if not thousands of bullets on the screen at once, it would be best to approach the impending optimization issues first. Looking at how most SHMUPS are developed, the use of an object pool is strongly encouraged.
The object pool instantiates a set number of disabled projectiles. The pool manager can then use a function to retrieve these objects for later use.
